Oooooh, I finally scraped off my hideous black toe nail. My fingers were “itchy-fied” and started playing with the dead nail, prying at it until it gave way, something akin to playing with a tooth which is loose? Anyways, the new nail has started growing beneath and I thought it would grow much better without an upper layer hindering it. Bad mistake!!! After I cut off the dead nail, the new nail looked pretty raw and utterly hideous. At least I could cover my dead black nail with nice glossy nail polish but the new nail? Hmmm….I have to cover it with a bandage to prevent an eyesore so it looks even more hideous now than before…

I went to eat steamboat in Damansara Village Steamboat (click on the link for pics, map and address of the place, KY did a food review of it liao) on sat with some gym buddies right after work. It was raining heavily when I reached and it was a nice touch from the restaurant to lend out umbrellas for the guests. My grouse is that there are too few parking bays around and I had to park under a tree along the side of the road. The steamboat restaurant is situated right opposite the Projet petrol kiosk in Damansara Jaya. From Damansara Village, you can head down the road to Pantai Seafood.
The place has nice ambience and Cyborg couldn’t stop singing praises of the place after frequenting the place a couple of times previously. Besides the usual table arrangements located outdoors and indoors, there were huts around to offer privacy for small party groups of people with accompanying bamboo blinds which can be rolled up or down to give privacy or shelter from the rain. Cyborg booked a hut as she says that the leaves will drop into the soup if we sat outside, which was a wise choice since it rained cats and dogs that night.
The cool weather was really great for eating steamboat otherwise we would have ended up perspiring while we ate. Who knew what extra garnishing that will add to the soup?? We asked for the normal soup (2 pots) but the boss let us tried another steamboat with the herbal soup (actually just added wine and herbs to the normal soup). The herbal soup is good tho’ I felt that the wine was not enough hence lack the extra kick. Anyways, since it was FOC, couldn’t complain much lar. Hehehehe….
We “lou sang” before the steamboat session began. Besides the usual steamboat fare of bebola and wat-nots, we ordered extra seafood (fresh) for eg. tiger prawns, fish, crabs, mussels, big shell clams and abalone slices (really nice but limited portions). I think there’s some set menu like Johnny’s steamboat if I’m not mistaken.
Since Cyborg been there a couple of times, she made the order and I just ate. Both she and Hooligan kept playing with the tiger prawns which they claimed were still alive and jumping on the plates before we throw them into the hot boiling soup. Hmmm, talk about playing with your food! Not to mention cruelly killing the live food….ah well, that’s as fresh seafood as you can get I guess….
The portion was sizeable and we were stuffed at the end of it even before the mee was thrown into the pot. Arrrrgggghhh…sei lor! It’s been non-stop eating this CNY. It was a really fun makan session with good food and good company to boot. Me and Cyborg were throwing insults at each other across the table as usual. Ok, as for the price factor, there were 9 of us and the bill came up to around RM35 per pax, which is pricier than the usual steamboat albeit with more quality food thrown in….
There is a lady hawking a satay stall behind our hut but we didn’t manage to try any as it was raining during the 1st half of the makan session and she abandoned her stall for shelter. There were some “pets” kept in the surroundings which will keep the kiddos occupied, most notably a huge live iguana kept in a cage…Ugggghhhh…ugly reptile…some fishes in a pond, hens running around and a replica of a small whale besides the toilet.
Standard steamboat sets start from RM18.80 per person.
