RIP Robin

I remember watching Saturday Night Fever many years ago and used to laugh at how John Travolta strutted to the song at the beginning of the movie like his pants was just too tight. It was hilarious. And who can forget his famous white suit, platforms and one finger pointing to the air pose during the dance sequence…so corny and OTT!!!

There were some great Bee Gees songs in Saturday Night Fever among others. One of my fave is “How Deep is Your Love” and it still sounds great after so many years.  Other songs which I like includes “Words”, “Too Much Heaven”, “Emotions”, “Melody Fair” (which I recently heard in one of the TVB series which I watched). RIP Robin Gibb and may the Bee Gees music legacy live on…

BP 62 & RPM 35

dog drivingPhew!! Finally I’m outta ‘jail’…well, at least for a slight breather. At the last mo’, I decided to rush for the BP launch by WPC and Crystal yesterday. As the launch was early, the class wasn’t full hence I managed to grab 2 spots, one for me and another for LM. Overall, this release was not too bad, with some nice sing-along tracks. The killer tracks are squats, triceps, lunges, shoulder and conditioning. The squat track, “Run to Paradise” was excruciating with a lot of slow controlled squats upwards. Drat!! I should have heeded LM’s jibe of loading the weights as I haven’t been gym-ing regularly for quite some time. My legs were literally quaking from the load and at the end of the track; I was tempted to throw it down to the floor!

attentionTriceps track, “Wind It Up”, re-visited the triceps pullover, which was first introduced in “Let’s Get Loud”. Basically, triceps pullover is a triceps extension pulled all the way to the ribcage. It was followed by the triceps overhead extensions, ending with triceps push-ups!!! Arrggghhhh, I was grunting in pain and I nearly couldn’t feel my triceps while doing the push-ups. My Gawd!!! This LM was beaming ear to ear as she, being totally S & M, really dig the triceps track. I scowled back at her.

gorillaWhen it came to the lunges track, I was already going uh-oh when WPC said we were gonna need the bench! I have never liked the lunges track, skipping it most of the time but decided to see how the new one goes. I can only sum it up in one word, mindless T-O-R-T-U-R-E!!!!! We were almost ‘sprinting’ on the bench with the backward-stepping lunges. And mostly, it was focused on one leg then switched over to the next. My legs never recovered from the squats, so add to this, I was suffering from butt and quad pain, so my face was all screwed up. I was panting at the end of the track, like everybody else. There’s a new move introduced in the shoulder track, with focus on overhead shoulder presses which is Modified Arnold Presses (I think) which WPC says will help to shape great-looking shoulders? Well, I reckon that’s before they dropped off in protest ler.

Conditioning track consists mostly of leg extensions and abdominal crunches, with some side planks thrown in at the end! Gosh, is it me or are the new releases getting more intense? We finished the release with the cool down track, “Lips of An Angel”…Niiiiice…..The BP gurus sure know how to choose their tracks. Perhaps the BC and BS gurus need to get some pointers from them.

montageNext, in a moment of madness, I dashed for the RPM launch. Perhaps it was a guilt-trip, trying to make up for all the truant gym days or I was on an endorphin-high after BP. Oh rite, they gave out Power Bars after the class so that was a nice ‘reward’ after all the hard work. I reckon I haven’t gone for any RPM classes for like 2 years already so it was kinda hard getting back on the saddle. Anyhow, I’ve gotta say RPM have good choice of tracks selections most of the time, with a nice balance of fast and slow songs thrown in. After the intense BP, I can’t really feel my legs that much so mostly I stick to the same resistance level until I had to start climbing. It’s dangerous to ‘climb’ on a low resistance level as you’ll prob lose control on the peddles and slipped.

bad girlCan’t really comment much on the release but it’s definitely more intense compared to the older tracks, with arrow-racing and hovering still very much a part of the chory. I love those climbing sessions alternate with racing, which was immensely torturing. I cheated by continuously fiddling the resistance dial to soothe my now numb legs. Some great sing-along tracks in this release includes “Riding on the Wings”, “You’re All I Have” , “Paradise City”, “Sunchyme”, “Rhythm is a dancer“, “Crazy” and “Waiting On the World to Change“. At the end of the class, we were given Power Gel drinks and some fruits for us to take. Yums…..nice touch, I must say to ease some tummy rumbling….. :)

Rock Chick

zzzzzAfter clocking in almost 14 hours yesterday working in the office, I was dead tired (plus I stayed up to watch “Little Britain” cos was too full from eating supper) and nearly couldn’t wake up this morning and wanted to ffk my usual hiking trip (where heads (mine) will roll as PL gently reminded me if I actually did that). Finally, I dragged myself up after slapping down the alarm and hauled myself to become Gasing Hill’s weekly blood donor. Oh well, I figured, this is like my most consistent weekly exercise nowadays and when I donate some blood to the mozzies, new blood cells get generated and moreover, I get to pump in some fresh supply of oxygen into my system once a week as opposed to the musty and dusty (due to ongoing refurbishment to the whole buidling) recyled oxygen sucked in the office everyday! Definitely a win-win situation altogether…so die die oso go lar…even tho’ the body is still in ‘sleeping mode’….zzzzzz….ok, left feet first, then right feet…left, right, left, right….Gees, whaddya know, I’m walking out of the house oredi….?

red catLast fri, went for Hooligan’s class. Met up with Shadow, whom I haven’t seen for ages. Hooligan did a great mix of old and new tracks. Warm-up started off with Listen to Your Heart/Trouble followed by Impossible Mission, Field of Dreams and Rock Me Amadeus. Then it was down to some really old tracks, some of which I haven’t done for ages, most notably Sk8ter Boi , and Time of My Life. I’m a rock chick at heart and love Avril Lavigne songs and most rock/alternative genre so that was a really awesome choice. Since I can’t really remember the steps that well, for the first part, I was merely jabbing with confusion as those in front of me were half doing uppercuts and half doing cross jabs and others dunno watnots, which makes it a tad confusing. Hooligan was way in front and since she’s not that outstanding, errr, I mean she being somewhat vertically challenged, I couldn’t really see what she was doing. Hahahaaha…. :P

funky childAnyhow, I enjoyed the song even tho’ it’s actually a remixed version of the original (hence, sounding less edgier and rock). Next, we moved on to Hardcore Paradise. WOOOHOOO, this is my ultimate fave muay thai track!!! I mean, I basically go nuts when the song is played, like kinda ‘possessed’, if you know what I mean, I dunno why….so even tho’ I’m dead tired by then, I can still rustle up some reserve energy to go the max when it’s Hardcore Paradise….which is aptly titled. *GUffaw* cos most ’hardcore’ BC fans can attest to this being their fave muay thai track. After the short burst of energy, I was doing Symphony No. 9 with less gusto, sorta just jabbing about like a robot and yawning *Horror*. Thank gawd, Hooligan didn’t see that…..hehehehe.

We finished off with Paradise City (Arrrggghhhh) and the awesome cooldown track, Because We Believe. Gees, I just wish they will pick Chasing Cars in the future releases as the cooldown song like in BP. Really Niiiiice…..the song is stuck in my head now….warbling….*Let’s waste time….Chasing Cars…..Around Our Heads….*

My Fair Lady

eagleOn Sun morn, went hiking up Gasing Hill with SY and PL. PL ended up in Kiara where we usually hike, I got lost getting to Gasing so by the time we hike proper, reckon we had lost an hour in between. Anyway, it was invigorating hiking in the jungle with the fresh air surrounded by flora (not much) and fauna. Well, at least there are no ‘little draculas’ around so we get to enjoy the scenery a bit more, unlike FRIM where we were practically looking to the ground just to avoid the leeches.

leafAnother great thing about Gasing is that the rest of the hikers almost always greet you “Good Morning” which is really nice and warm and makes you feel as though you are traipsing in your friendly neighbourhood. After the rejuvenating hike where we perspired and got the heart rate pumping, we adjourned to Raju’s for our brekkie. Gees, huge huge crowd had already gathered. PL and SY sang praises of the famous mamak stall. Although I must admit (sheepishly) that I haven’t been there before even though I was schooling rather nearby previously. *Chuckle*

Betty BooI got home and was really psyched so I got around to washing my car with gusto after which I bathed and got ready to go downtown to watch the musical, My Fair Lady . It’s my first attempt at watching musicals having missed a few of them when they were in town. Anyway, the hall in the KL Convention Centre was really nothing to shout about and we got seats upstairs, albeit at the utmost front row so there were no big heads blocking our view at all. According to AT and FC, the hall in Istana Budaya is much better equipped for musicals.

TweetyMy grouse is that there were no background changes to the backdrop at all throughout the entire show, which made it a tad boring! I nearly dozed off and got restless seating in the somewhat uncomfortably ramrod straight seats. I enjoyed the songs sung though like “Wouldn’t it be Loverly”. The actress who played the protagonist has a lovely voice, so too does the guy who’s infatuated with her. I’ve watched the movie (Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison) a few times so I knew the storyline pretty well.

guitaristOh well, perhaps I’m not cultured enough to really appreciate this type of arty-farty stuff or I was too tired from all the heavy-duty exertion in the morning. Gees, like the time I went to watch the MPO and nearly dozed off too. Tsk, tsk, tsk….guess I’ll probably be more ‘alive’ in a rock concert. Hahahaha…..guess I’m just not use to sitting down quietly or who enjoy the finer arts and creative stuff kinda person.
